  @article{1748-3190-13-2-026010, abstract = {State-of-the-art rapid additive manufacturing (RAM)—specifically fused filament fabrication (FFF)—has gained popularity among architects, engineers and designers for the quick prototyping of technical devices, the rapid production of small series and even the construction scale fabrication of architectural elements. The spectrum of producible shapes and the resolution of detail, however, are determined and constrained by the layer-based nature of the fabrication process. These aspects significantly limit FFF-based approaches for the prefabrication and in situ fabrication of free-form shells at the architectural scale. Snails exhibit a shell building process that suggests ways to overcome these limits. They produce a soft, pliable proteinaceous film—the periostracum—which later hardens and serves, among other functions, as a form-giving surface for an inner calcium carbonate layer. Snail shell formation behavior is interpreted from a technical point of view to extract potentially useful aspects for a biomimetic transfer. They feature hardly any modularity and do not allow reconfiguration in a significant process change. One possibility to adapt machines is to produce them from plastic or composite materials through generative methods. This printed machine is a reconfigurable, monolithic module, in which drives are integrated. By a cooperative motion generation, larger workspaces can be realized while the installation spaces decrease. This gives the possibility to use alternative drive technologies, for example piezo-drives. Based on these methods, two small generatively produced machine tools are designed, using two different drive principles. The first machine tool is equipped with ball screw drives, which are cost efficient and space saving. The second machine tool uses piezo-actuators, which are very dynamic in motion generation. Bisher liegt der Fokus jedoch noch verstärkt auf den bewegten Komponenten, um der Forderung nach höherer Dynamik z.B. durch Massenverringerung der entsprechenden Bauteile nachzukommen. Bei Anwendung von CFK als Leichtbauwerkstoff im Gestell einer Werkzeugmaschine können die charakteristischen Vorteile wiebeispielsweise die hohe thermische Stabilität gezielt genutzt werden, um eine höhere Fertigungs- und Wiederholgenauigkeit bei der Bearbeitung zu erzielen. Dem stehen Nachteile wie Anisotropie und die Notwendigkeit eines belastungsangepassten Lagenaufbaus gegenüber. Mit Hilfe der Finiten-Elemente Methode (FEM) können der Lagenaufbau, Faserorientierung sowie die Faserwinkel schon während der Entwicklungdefiniert und der Einfluss auf das Bauteilverhalten überprüft werden. Der vorliegendeBeitrag zeigt die Auslegung und Bewertung eines Rahmengestells aus CFK für ein neuartiges Maschinenkonzept für die Mikrobearbeitung mit inverser, kooperativer Bewegungserzeugung.
