The Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is becoming a popular foundation for modeling digital twins. Asset Administration Shells come in three successive levels of enhancement, also referred to as AAS (communication) types, though there is no common definition for these types. We conducted a systematic mapping study to find out how they are defined in the literature. As the analysis for type 2 AAS and type 3 AAS remains without direct results, we devised a novel classification schema from our findings via portfolio analysis.   @inproceedings{10.1007/978-3-032-03698-8_22, abstract = {In the context of manufacturing, the implementation of modular software necessitates the establishment of real-time inter-process communication between different real-time modules operating within a singular compute node. The act of sharing or passing data between processes has been identified as a well-known challenge in concurrent programming. Concurrent data access on multi-core processors has the potential to result in data inconsistencies when multiple processes concurrently read and write data. As demonstrated in the existing literature, there are multiple methodologies for concurrent data access. In the context of real-time systems, the property of wait-freeness, which guarantees time-bounded access to data, is paramount. This property enables access to shared data that is not dependent on the scheduler. In this paper, we analyze wait-free data structures for two common communication patterns: single-shared-value and firms-in-first-out queues. A comparison of suitable approaches is facilitated by implementing them in Rust and conducting a benchmarking analysis. The benchmark reveals discrepancies in performance that are primarily attributable to cache interference. The findings of this study demonstrate that triple buffers are characterized by wait-free operation and are well-suited for single-shared-value queues. Digital Product Passports are also being developed and will become mandatory, such as for batteries in the European Union by 2027. Although this may initially require additional work, it can lead to synergies from the information obtained. By using {\$}{\$}{\backslash}mathrm {\{}CO{\_}2{\textasciitilde}{\}}{\$}{\$}CO2values, e.g., from a Digital Product Passport of components, you can optimize the {\$}{\$}{\backslash}mathrm {\{}CO{\_}2{\textasciitilde}{\}}{\$}{\$}CO2content of the end product to achieve a specific target and improve competitiveness. This can be achieved by adapting processes, such as choosing between high or low dynamics to influence overall energy consumption. A framework is necessary to extract specific information from DPP and make decisions for adaptation. This paper presents a framework architecture based on OPC UA and the AAS, accompanied by an illustrative example of a battery-packing handling process. This requires an appropriate replacement of proprietary fieldbus systems in the automation sector. A promising solution to implement cross-plane end-to-end real-time capable communication between computing nodes is proposed in literature. The usage of Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture (OPC UA) as the information model with the Publish-Subscribe (PubSub) communication mechanism in combination with Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) is presented to fulfill the requirements for message transmission. In contrast to the state of the art of configuring fieldbus systems, the configuration of such a real-time communication node has to be done manually. This process is complex, as deep knowledge in different domains is required.
